Darren McDonald

Darren McDonald

Red Teamer. Hardware hacker. High-tech low-life.

Eighteen years in offensive security, finding vulnerabilities in things that aren't supposed to have them. I perform simulated cyber attacks, hack hardware and firmware with a special interest in bypassing disk encryption. I do awful things to networking protocols. I sometimes do talks and workshops in the offensive infosec space.

Career

What I work on

Most of the time I'm either redteaming or working on hardware. Lately the research projects I've been working on are in IR touchless exit buttons, RFID access control, thin clients, and UEFI/BIOS. Historically I've done things with SDR and have spent a lot of time looking at Cisco networking kit.

Speaking

Semi-active in the UK offsec community. You'll often find me at BSides Basingstoke, DC4420 London, and BSides London. Full slate at /talks.
